09 Mayhappy mother’s day

Maybe you’re surprised – or not surprised at all – to hear that writing a Mother’s Day blog can be difficult. You see, Mother’s Day is amazingly sweet, but it is also tricky. It is the ultimate reminder that we have been blessed with the greatest gift on earth, our children, and it’s a day to recognize and remember your own mother. And yet, sometimes, there is the reality that being a Mama, or loving your own mother, isn’t always so easy. For many reasons. For the second year in a row, I continue to learn the delicacy of Mother’s Day. The raw emotion that thinking about, remembering or being a mother can bring. In acknowledging that, I think I’ll forego my thoughts on this special day in too much detail and just say that wherever you are at TODAY in your own motherhood journey, I pray it is richly blessed, deeply encouraged and lived with purpose. Because it is just that – a journey.

But I would be remiss to not give a virtual hug to all you Mamas out there because, well, this is the ‘Mama Makeover’, for goodness sake! ;-)  I hope the sun was an added bonus to a beautiful Sunday with your family and/or friends. It certainly was for me, in addition to a day of smiles and tears, hugs & snuggles and the ever-present joy mixed with heartache. And this afternoon, a special retreat to Zenana Spa & Wellness Center… let’s say it was a time to do whatever I wanted, laugh or cry or just say ‘ahhhhh’. That’s exactly what I did with Kathryn and my massage… part-deep tissue, part relaxation, part healing, all invigorating and all meeting me right where I was at!

I am ever impressed with the care, kindness and level of service shown by the magnificient gals at Zenana. From the day I stepped through the doors for my MM interview to becoming a more familiar face at pilates or different treatments, they make me feel right at home and pampered. I have had the pleasure of getting to know the amazing front-end staff and want to thank them personally: Tasnim, Kathryn, Ngozi, Heidi & Sara. You make me feel so welcomed and cared for and I appreciate that each time I walk through the doors! If anyone were to feel ‘out of place’ at any other spa, they should step into Zenana and be open to an authentic, yet exclusive pampering wellness experience!
I’ve also been on the receiving end of some fabulous treatments throughout the past five weeks from the following skilled providers: Allison, who normally does home visits for massage, gave me a wonderful massage early on and I learned her passion to help assist mothers in the birthing process. If only I had met her during my pregnancies! Trudi, who just moved from Montana & recently started at Zenana, was a delight during my pedicure… we laughed and talked about all sorts of fun topics and I walked away with a new favorite shade of purple for my toes this summer! Indira, an esthetician, who gave me a luscious facial with the spa’s product line- Éminence Organic Skin Care of Hungary. It had been years since my last facial and it was amazing, especially trying out new products made with all organic ingredients. And of course, Kathryn, today… I mean it when I say my massage was one of the best I’ve ever had! Thank you for meeting me where I was at in all my emotion, joy & sorrow on this Mother’s Day… to release into the massage like that was a God-send and I’m so delighted you are now officially on this path to care for others with your healing touch. ;-)

I love Zenana’s desire & mission… that the Spa was ‘the culmination of a shared dream to make a difference in women’s lives. Our wish is that women and their families will experience our center as a nurturing, safe place where they can find the support and resources they need during this exciting, challenging, and vulnerable time.’ Although I didn’t find them during pregnancy/birthing, it’s indeed been an ‘exciting and vulnerable time’ in my life the past two months. I’m so grateful to partake in their care and offerings - thank you, Zenana Spa & wonderful staff, & HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!
