25 Aprflexibility, grace! & a great day ahead…

Happy Earth Day! Just thrilled that Maddy has overcome the stomach flu and is feeling back to normal. YAY! ;-)
We all know as mamas that living in the moment and taking it an hour at a time – with ourselves, our kids, our families – is both a sweet blessing & a real challenge – AND it’s a learned trait over time! I admit that before Maddy was born I was only semi-empathetic as I watched my mama friends around me, plan, then cancel last minute, then reschedule for visits, outings, appointments, dates, etc. How hard is it to keep a visit to the dentist or a coffee date, right? Well, I now know it is not always so easy with the little ones… flexibility and grace (and balance!) are my hourly mantras and I/we all have to intentionally practice these daily. It’s a tricky slope of fulfilling responsibilities & keeping commitments BUT not over-extending yourself. Everything flows so much better when we are enjoying the commitments!
So back to living in the moment – and enjoying! Today I’m getting back on track with some of my appointments and I can’t wait to indulge and spend time with Dr. Amy Watson for a chiropractic adjustment, my first visit with Dr. Meaghan Woodruff at Bloom Natural Healthcare and a make-up private pilates session with Wendy Foster.

Just typing the day out is exciting! It still blows me away that I get to devote several hours in ONE DAY to me, my wellness, my physical and emotional self. I admit that at times it feels so counter-intuitive to being a SAHM to a toddler… maybe you feel that way too in thinking about self-care while tending to a small one? This process is constantly reminding me of the BENEFITS of what one hour (or more!) of self-care are for my family – and for myself.

And just a side-note: At The Seed Center doing Gyrotonic the other day, who do I bump into there, but Wendy Foster doing a private session with Dr. Meaghan Woodruff! So funny, because it’s a sweet, small world in the arena of women-supporting-women in Portland with wellness & self-care… one I would have missed out on if it weren’t for MM. I feel so nurtured and empowered with these women and realize they are the teachers/experts and yet, still students themselves. That was really cool for me to see because it means we are all lifetime learners with the opportunity to be someone’s teacher/mentor at the same time. I’d love to be that example for Maddy and Sophia or another young woman… grateful to MM for seeing this potential in myself again.
